Vignetting

When getting a new camera with a smaller sensor than the existing camera, does the vignetting get better (as in less troublesome), or is vignetting largely a fixed constant (certain percentage of the FoV) whatever size the sensor?

Imagine the outer box is the large sensor, and the red box the smaller sensor and the black bits the vignetting; is this representative or not?
