Focal reducer with or without field flattener

I've got hold of an Orion x0.8 imaging focal reducer to use with my 127mm APO refractor. I've already got a matched field flattener that came with the scope and what I'm wondering is do I use both or does the reducer reduce and flatten at the same time?
