Guiding with EQ3 Pro SynScan

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking of upgrading my imaging setup so I can take guided DSLR exposures.

Currently I have a Skywatcher Explorer 150P on an EQ3-2. In order to gain access to an ST-4 port I want to replace the dual-axis motors with the EQ3 Pro upgrade kit, including the SynScan handset. A Skywatcher 9x50 finder or Altair Miniguider would be used as the guidescope to minimise the overall weight.

Is anyone using the same equipment? If so, please could you let me know how well the EQ3-2 Pro fares with guiding, especially with a telescope as heavy as the 150P?

Honestly I’d be happy with 120s exposures as long as I could keep most of them. Anything more is a bonus.

Thanks,

James
