Comet Lovejoy widefield, 20th Dec 2013

Hi all,

Had a disastrous early-morning start attempting to capture Mars (absolutely atrocious seeing), so as dawn was approaching I pointed my DSLR roughly towards where Comet Lovejoy should be, and took a few exposures. I was pleasantly surprised to capture it clearly, despite my poor aim, the twilight and strong moonlight.

Just 4 x 90s exposures, Canon 700d, Canon 75-300mm zoom set at 75mm. Not bad for 6 minutes exposure and no flats or darks. Definitely worth another visit, with better focus and a bit of hedge trimming to get a better view.

The trouble is, whenever I hear the name Lovejoy, I immediately think of this lovable rogue and his theme tune (one for the younger viewers!)
