I bought a set of army-issue thermal coat and trousers from a surplus store.  These are incredibly warm, and as an added bonus, they roll up into two small packs for easy transport with my kit.  I'm not sure what they're called, but the outer layer is nylon, like sleeping bags, and they are AMAZING!  I've worked down to -8 and not felt a thing, and they don;t restrict movement.  The great thing is that they slip over whatever you.re wearing too, and also have a hood for keeping your bonce warm...
