Best filter for Jupiter

Hi.

Jupiter and the Moon are so bright with my 300P and Canon 7D that I get flare effects at the sensor. I don't want to reduce aperture to maintain resolution, so could anyone recommend a good filter that does not introduce colour change?

Would a Baader Variable Polarizing Moon filter or a ND filter do the trick? If a ND, then I guess a 1.8 density would be best for a 12" scope?

Thanks!

Hi.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, but that is just changing the gain on the sensor. I can get the correct exposure that way, but it won't stop optical issues due to the bucket loads of light hitting the sensor. I'm hoping a filter will reduce that overall level. It is also currently painful to look at the moon visually!

Cheers.
