Are you still looking for a scope? Not sure where you live but I have just upgraded and have a Skywatcher 130P with motor drive, controller and eyepieces to sell. It's been a great scope and gets super reviews. Let me know if you're interested. Note to moderators.....hope it's OK to mention this in the forum and I'm not breaking any rules?

A BIG THANK YOU to all posters, this has been a great help.

The friend in question is "popping round to see my wife" this evening and I'll take her through the advice on the telescope purchasing.

I really appreciate the thoughts and experience shared, hopefully he can get off to a decent start with the hobby.

(Following advice on here and in magazines a couple of 18 months or so ago I started with a decent set of binoculars and then got my first scope, a Skyliner 200 Dobsonian, and have had a fantastic time!)
