SW Evostar 80ED v 100ED?

Recommended Posts

Being new to this, I've been busy reading up on various equipment, but now need some practical advice. My long term goal is to get in to AP, but in the meantime, simply exploring the heavens will have to do. Something that can also be used terrestrially would also tick one of my "optional" boxes.

i think I have narrowed down my choice of scope to a SW Evostar ED Series, but need some advice on the pros/cons of the 80 or 100 (or something else)!

Any pointers would help immensely & be appreciated. Thanks.

One is OPK for imaging the other is OK for visual.

It really comes down to which one do you want as the main purpose of the scope.

Also will you buy a scope now with the right mount for imaging later. The EQ5 would handle either scope for visual now but would be a bit on the light side for imaging.

Thanks for that Ronin, good point! I was thinking of the SW AZ EQ6 GTi V8, which should be more that suitable, but I'm waiting for part 3 of Steve Richards' review before settling on that for sure.
