Nah!

I noticed with my D50 that it already does this. In the viewfinder there is a green dot which comes on when the 'scope (or lens) is focused. This obviously is only any use if you can see through the viewfinder and you have a bright star in the selected focus box, but by going either side of the camera's "in focus" position its possible to find a mid point between the ends of focus travel where the dot changes, it seems to work.

I have the same facility on my Samsung GX10.. I use it but still rely on my eyes for final focus.. There should be some setting in the camera software that allows you to enable and disable it.. there is in mine anyway.
