First LRGB image... Okayish, but questions

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps.

Below is my 1st LRGB image on which i would welcome feedback. I'm fairly happy with the results considering it was only a short session and my 1st run out, but feel the following could be improved:

  1. Focus - must look at how to nail this
  2. Colour balance - think I need an LP filter (see separate post)
  3. Lots to do on the processing side
  4. Need to add flats and bias frames

The image was:

  • 5x300 L binned 1x1
  • 5X150 RGB binned 2x2

Hi

I'm in a similar position, just getting my LRGB going.

Focus: I use artemitis, which includes a FWHM routine.. I use that to get me bang on focus, which then shifts as the OTA shrinks with falling temperature

Colour Balance: I process my R G & B seperately, then set the background on each to a small offset (typically 100ADUs) before combining into the LRGB (effectively subtracting light pollution).. I also set my L to the same 100ADU background. As for colour balance that really needs to be done by calibrating against one or more G2V stars, then using the result to multiply the RG&B channels after having taken care of the background.
