This is just a quick heads up that PIPP v2.2.x is now at http://sites.google.com/site/astropipp/downloads. There have been some big changes under the hood, especially related to the types of files it handles. Here are some of the new feature highlights:

PIPP now uses FFmpeg (open source video handling code) and can now open most video files thrown at it:

  • Includes support for .MOV files from Canon cameras.
  • Supports many codecs, including codecs with lossless compression (good) and codecs with lossless compression.

PIPP now uses the DCRAW code and can handle RAW images from most cameras, not just from Canon cameras as before. This could be useful to those who do full disc solar/lunar imaging with non-Canon cameras.

PIPP can now output very large AVI files (up to ~120GB) rather than being restricted to the old 2GB/4GB limit.

There are a few minor features designed to make working with WinJUPOS a bit easier, these will be best explained by a tutorial when I get a chance.

There are also bug fixes for stretching the histogram of 16-bit data and generating animations from 16-bit data using the YUY2 AVI codec.

Cheers,

Chris

Another heads up, for PIPP v2.2.4 this time. This has improved support for creating animations, including the ability to create AVI files with an MPEG-4 part 2 codec, massively reducing the file size.

Also added is support for generating AVI files using the Ut Video codec, a lossless codec that has great potential for reducing AVI file sizes before archiving them. In testing I have seen file sizes reduced to half the original size or smaller, all without loosing any quality. If the system has the Ut Video codec installed (latest version here: http://umezawa.dyndn...rchive/utvideo/), then RegiStax 6 can handle AVI files using the Ut Video cedec directly.

Cheers,

Chris
