Updating Meade Autostar 497 Handset

Has anyone managed to do this?

The Meade site and instructions with the cables are poor. For instance do you power on the scope whilst connected to the PC? Do connected via the handset?

Not a show stopper but I do like to keep up with any newer software updates.

Hi Chris,

I did mine just yesterday so i'll help in any way I can.

Firstly, yes connect the handset and power on the scope. Then connect the autostar to the PC via the serial port. My laptop didnt have one so I had to connect the autostar to the new PC (win7 64bit). It grumbled a lot about a number of things but I found that by simply reducing font to system standard size the update program ran just fine. You'll obviously need the latest autostar update version from meades download page first though.

I've done mine several times over the years, I used the info and archives at http://www.weasner.com/etx/menu.html.

After advice from there, I stuck at an older version for my LX90 as the new updates offered nothing new for my model, also some releases have introduced issuse.
