Nexstar 4se Firmware update

As mentioned in the Welcome thread, I have bought my wife a Nexstar 4se. Unfortunately the Handset displays 'Boot Loader Invalid pkg : ooo2. Reading help files on Celestron's site, it tells me to update the Firmware. I've tried on my Mac which does n't recognise the scope (does recognise the port). Then tried on a Windows machine that just displays 'A Java Exception has occured' When I try to load the Firmware manager. Any idea's?

If it was new send it back.

If the message relates to the actual boot loader (which it looks like) there will be not a lot you can do.

If the firmware is corrupt then you use the loader to put new firmware on the handset if however the boot loader is corrupt then you cannot replace anything.

If no help from here SGL then I would suggest a look on Cloudy Nights. They have a section for Celestron scopes and will I suspect have a greater number of people that may be able to help or offer advice. Basically register and ask.

Have you all the packages necessary from the Celestron site and read the instructions at least 2 or 3 times?

when I did mine the firmware manager was rubbish and kept crashing my PC

I'm sure in the end I downloaded 2 self executing firmware updates which worked fine.

there are diferent versions of handset so check first

The Celestron site says you need 2 cables, USB-RS232 and the Nexstar RS232 cable.

Any chance that the Celestron one could have a different pin arrangement from standard ?

Thanks Ronin, took your advice & sent the handset back. Took them a couple of weeks but I have it back. Bit cloudy out tonight but managed to get it aligned.

Read the instructions several times.

Make sure you have all possible data to hand.

Double check everything.
