binned flats etc

I read somewhere that for binned images (say 2x2) that you need to bin the darks and bias BUT you couold just resize a normal flat to suit the binned image. I can see the theory behind this - i think! Darks and bias need to be at the pixel scale of the image to work correctly but the flat is just an image of the optics so could just be a rescaled full size image.......thoughts any one?

Strictly speaking there is pixel by pixel information in flats though whether this matters for amateurs is another matter. I think it might be worth trying a resized flat but I always shoot new ones on the very rare occasions when I bin 2X2.
