problem with remote trigger for canon 500d

Hi together.

Sorry for my question if it is not proper to this forum. I have Canon 500d and I build very simple one button remote trigger wired version. It works perfectly until now. one day after several photos it stops work at all. Did any of you met before such a problem? There is nothing in the wire to broke because it is only wires and button. So I am afraid that there is problem with a camera.

Is the camera still working manually? If so best buy a proper remote, cheap and safer for the camera .
