LVI Smartguider questions

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at guiding options and have a few questions regarding the LVI Smartguider...

Is there a difference in guiding ability between the V1 and V2 of the Smartguider? Same CCD?

Would the Smartguider work ok attached to a 50mm finderscope?

The finder is a 50mm aperture, 162mm focal length (so f/3.2)

I'm looking for a guiding setup that doesn't require the use of a laptop. I'll be using a Canon 5d Mk ii for imaging and don't want to have to transport more gear than neccesary.

Are there other systems that you could reccomend?

I'm keen to stick with using a finderscope rather than an 80mm frac as a guidescope for now.

Also, cost is an issue and the LVI Smartguider is at the upper of my limit.

Cheers

Chris

Ok, I've had a rethink...

After doing a bit of research on here and elsewhere, I'm now planning on going down the QHY5 route and just using the laptop afterall.

It seems to be the most common setup and the easiest to work with. I don't want to make things any harder than they have to be!
