40mm eyepiece means lower magnification not greater magnification. The image is smaller.

Assume you mean Sky Watcher ?

What eyepieces came with it?

Guessing a 25mm and a 10mm.

Usually the 10mm is poor.

For more magnification the the 10mm consider an 8mm that is decent. There will not be a great increase in magnification but it should be better quality and is a useable focal length without problems. If you can then the BST Explorer, a TMB Planetary otherwise a plossl.

By the way Magnification is:

Mag = (Scope Focal Length)/(Eyepiece focal Length)

Smaller eyepiece = greater magnification, for the same scope.
