New Finder or Piggy Back?

Recommended Posts

Hello, the finderscope on my scope is awful and I want to replace it. I have noticed some photos of scopes with other refractors piggybacking them. My scope is an 8" Newt and would take such a scope. Are these used as finderscopes or for astrophotography? I wondered if a cheap refractor off ebay may be as good as a new finderscope. Could be the silliest question of the night!

what about a telrad? as to the pics you have seen I couldn't tell if they were for imaging or not as i haven't seen them :D . finder scopes have a wide field of view so as long as the scope you are looking through has that it would work as a finder.
