3 star alignment problems on synscan

Hi everyone, hoping someone can offer some assistance. I was doing a 3 star align last night, first 2 stars were pretty close and only needed minor adjusting. The 3rd star was out of the viewfinder everyone so this caused me issues as I was taking pics and spent ages trying to find my targets. On previous attempts the 3rd star has always been bang on if the first 2 were good. Why would this have happened? The only thing I could think of was the first 2 alignment stars were fairly close, both were westerly. Any thoughts appreciated.

I had this issue a few week back and it turned out to be the date had reset. Something I overlook because the time was still correct. Worth a double check on the time date location.
