Webcam Focusing Advice

Recommended Posts

I have a Skywatcher flextube 200p and a philips spc 900.

However I'm unable to get it to focus either on it's own or with a 2.5x barlow. It's like it needs to be even closer to the secondary mirror than the focuser will allow.

I did briefly read something about needing a barlow that would take it from a f6 scope to something in the 20's? Does that sound right?

I can focus on a flag that is about 1/4 mile away. I tried with the moon this evening and it wouldn't focus, unfortunately the clouds rolled in before I could try Jupiter.

Thank you for your reply, at least it's not just me.

I'd like to get it working as I'd like some shots of the solar system objects, in hindsight I dived in and got the camera without understanding what I needed to get it work.

Ok try this:) full credit for this idea goes to RikMcRae (i had the same problem and he suggested this to me.

remove the 2"- 1.25 adapter and uncrew the 1.25 part-remove the 2 little tension screws on the 1.25 part and put them somewhere SAFE! you really dont want to lose these!, rescrew it in from the underside, refit the 2"- 1.25 adapter and your good to go!

You will need a bit of sticky tape to hold the cam in place, but this will get you started.:)

There is other ways of doing this but they cost money.
