Higher Power Eyepiece Advice

I am thinking of getting a higher power eyepiece and am looking at the Meade 5000 HD-60 4.5mm. It has decent eye relief and supposedly helps with chromatic abberation (F5 Achro suffers a bit on bright objects!).

Any views on this or better suggestions for under £80?

16mm eye relief and 60 degree field on the Xcel LXs for £69, these seam to be the performers at the minute, some have even mentioned televue radians in the same sentence, which cant be bad

Unfortunately, I think you will find the CA becomes worse at higher powers regardless of the eyepiece type used. Generally F/5 achromats work best at 100x and under - they were designed to be low / medium power, wide field scopes which they are great for.

Hmmm, I was hoping I could squeeze out somethin close to 150 x magnification.

Any good filters for reducing CA?

I spend most of my time like at the fuzzier things in the sky but it is impossible to completely ignore Jupiter, Saturn etc.

Some are more bothered about CA than others, not sure on filter correction.

Does the CA you get now bother you at all?

You could try a minus violet or semi apo filter, I believe William Optics do them, amongst others. They don't remove all the CA but do reduce it a bit I believe.

That's good to know.

CA is there but bearable at 106 X (my 6mm). I guess I am trying to wring the most out of my scope.

A bit more magnification will also help with slightly smaller planetary nebulae. In my 6mm the Blue Snowball was pretty bright and looked as though I could magnify more.
