Heq5 mount

Hi, does anyone know if the the standard Heq5 Skywatcher mount has the same motors as the Heq5 Synscan mount? Thanks.

No they are different. When you purchased the synscan upgrade they come with new motors, control board and gearing

Thanks. Presumably the motors are better on the Synscan version. It will just take me even longer to save up!

The cost of the upgrade is typically £290 for the complete kit, there is no "cheap" way of performing the upgrade as both the motors and control board has to be replaced. The upgrade kit seldom (if at all) appear on the second hand market as it would downgrade the mount.

The motors and controller offer better resolution.

I am afraid getting a Heq5 is a long term project/ dream, as in the last few months I have bought a DMK 41 CCD camera, a 250mm reflector and a second hand Tal mount, not to mention a rather expensive focal reducer for my Mak!
