According to SWMBO, this is the last scope I'm allowed to buy (until I get rid of some of those I already own). Meade 8" SCT - F10

Couldn't resist. Probably paid over the odds but it is as follows:

• Immaculate
  
• Manufactured in the US, so I understand it has superior optics - time will tell..!
  
• Fits on an EQ mount, rather than a fork which the majority are now designed for
  

These were originally sold on a mount which was less than suited for it. As a result they got a bad reputation, but the OTA was always seen as good.

I've added the focuser, the Telrad and changed the finder scope over for one with an illuminated reticule. The mount is my old EQ5, which I shall have to change next year but hey, call me a happy bunny....

Star tested it last night and it is perfect. Then had a quick look at Jupiter and the moon. So far so good!
