Starter telescope

Hello

I would like to buy a friend a telescope as a Christmas gift

My budget is around £300

I have emailed First Light Optics for a recommendation but have since seen one on another site which is over budget but looks like it could be a safe bet - it is a Konus Digimax 90 and the website says it had a 90% rating from bbc sky at night magazine. It has a goto tracker thing which I think would be worth having, especially as it will be his first telescope.

Basicly I just want to make sure that I buy something that will get used and not put back in the box and forgotten about if it is too complicated to use or too heavy to carry about so any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

We are located in Milton Keynes so also any recommendations on good spots to star gaze from would be good too
