Choose a scope

Recommended Posts

Ok guys if you had an EQ5, what scope would you buy as an upgrade to a Skymax 127? I want something which will still be solid on the mount and not wobble like a jelly, mainly for planetary, but with some capability for messier.... Answers on the back of a postcard or below please lol.

Well mine came with a 200P, which most on here say are fine for visual, but on the limit for imaging, and that a 200P is best suited for an HEQ5 mount, so using that analogy a SW150P on an EQ5 would be good for a newt option but then there would be little gained in aperture. Failing that, I guess an 8" SCT would be OK, the short tube less prone to wobble, and with a longer focal length making it ideal for planetary. The 8" aperture would also resolve a lot of the DSO's too.
