What's this object?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the correct forum area, but I'd like to know what I accidentally captured on Sunday night. I couldn't find this in Stellarium or The Sky6. I searched around the vicinity of the Jellyfish nebulae (NGC6888) which was my intended target. I later realised that my finderscope was badly missaligned. That will teach me for attaching the DSLR without a proper alignment :).

I think there is some software that can tell you what you have got, but I cant remember what it is.

I have attached a stack of a few subs. The small red nebulous object is at a 4pm position with respect to the centre of the widefield. There is also a closeup.

Thanks very much chaps.

OK, just realised I got the Cresent and Jellyfish mixed up (there is a similarity). I was actually after the Cresent (which is NGC6888) and found later on. The problem is that IC443 is in Gemini (which was under the horizon) and I was definitely in the vicinity of Cygnus?

Thanks a cool link Mike. I have the RA & DEC just got to find out whereabouts in the sky that actually is.

John
