  1. Thanks for the guidance on the clutch screw and damage to the worm drive. My clutch screw is steel and is acting like a cutting tool. photo below for info. I have now dissembled the RA worm gear assembly - 2 plastic washers and an aluminium lock screw, all covered in the ubiquitous white sticky grease. One of the washers had some quite noticeable rough lumps left behind from the stamping process which i have trimmed away and sanded to smoothness. The photo below shows the order of components and the assembly location on the RA housing. I used a pair of circlip pliers to undo the lockscrew My RA drive is now at maximum disassembly. i still have some dregreasing to do on the main axle and the axle locating holes in the RA housing. Then some teflon grease at appropriate points and it should all go back together. In theory at least!
  2. I have now dissembled the RA axis elements of the Celestron CG-3 mount. Picture attached to hopefully help others. I did manage to drop the red fibre and one of the two clear acetate washers that sit between the orange cog and the RA setting circle. I am assuming that teh fibre washer sits between the acetate washers, hopefully somebody can confirm this! I notice that the RA clutch screw is eating into the shaft of the orange cog, not sure if this is normal for a scope thats only a few months old. next job is disassembly, cleaning and re-lubrication of the RA worm gear which is not easy to rotate. as per my original message, if anybody has any insights into this task i would be grateful for their advice
  3. Can anybody point me to a thread i thought i remembered which had photos showing a Celestron CG-3 mount through disassembly and assembly. Alternatively does anybody have a set of photos showing the RA axis in disassembly and guidance on cleaning, re-greasing and re-assembly. The RA axis does not rotate smoothly and i have read accounts from other members of re-greasing the mount but can't find any pictures. thanks
