I just wanted to thank the two members who quickly posted out the items I purchased from them recently, I am sure they know who they are.

I am very happy with the speed of delivery and the quality of the equipment.

But why close adverts so quickly? I had no chance to thank them and leave feedback, surely critical to the the forum and future sales from those members???

Already connected up and working.

Starsense and GPS both on the Aux port.

So I just cancelled that order before it was shipped from the States.

I just bought an RJ11 splitter from Amazon at £8.99

Fully wired 6P6C it works perfectly.

I also bought two RJ12 curly cables 6P6C to complete the look. £10.99

I now have the Starsense Auto-Align and Celestron GPS plugged in to the Aux socket.

Thanks. Its a year ago and I can't remember exactly but I think it was blurry images. probably the classic expectation versus reality.

Thanks for that. But the astro cameras seem to be very expensive in comparison.

Could you perhaps suggest an astro camera as I really have no clue which would be suitable for me.

I see a Nikon D7500 astro modified on ebay. I also see a few members use this, would that be a sensible first imaging buy?

I am also more comfortable with a DSLR so might go with that option to start with.

I appreciate this isn't really an imaging suitable setup but I have the wedge fitted and would dearly love to get a few images of a galaxy.

I do have the Celestron solar system 10Meg camera but haven't had much success with it so far, I have had a year out and am just starting up again.

What would I need to get a colour picture of say the Andromeda galaxy?

I am partially colour blind and the colourful images I see on this forum look great to me, although obviously are not the same as you see.

Should I look at a SLR astro modified or a dedicated astronomy camera?

I would like the lowest cost to start with.

Many thanks. I have just ordered that one along with a standard RJ11 fully wired adapter. It will be interesting to see how they are both wired.

Cancel that request. I just realised it is an RJ11 6P6C adapter that is required.

The scope has remained unused for the past year due to other projects and work commitments.

I got it all out this afternoon and couldn't remember which way to point the tripod as it has the Celestron wedge fitted  :pmsl:

I wondered if anyone knows what is special about the Celestron Aux splitter.

They are out of stock everywhere.

Simple RJ45 splitters are available and it seems odd that Celestron would do something weird with their wiring to stop you using one of these.

I just fitted the Starsense auto align but wanted the GPS module to be connected as well.

Mine was a good lesson learnt.

Never leave the scope unattended pointed up.......

It dried and most of the ash came off but there are some tiny marks left on the front glass that won't come off with gentle rubbing.

The 60th Birthday scope has seen no action this winter due to the terrible weather and poor skies.

But tonight looked great.
I get the scope setup around 4-30PM to allow everything to cool and hopefully minimise the dew.
Get the GPS running and start the alignment.
The moon is up so I use that.
Then Jupiter and job done.

I go out a few hours later, about 15 minutes ago, to see snow failing, the scope is wet and covered in snow.

I don't bloody believe it.

Then I look up to see perfect clear skies......

The penny drops..... The bloody new neighbour has lit a fire in the garden and the wind is taking the ashes and fumes directly from his fire to the centre of our house and the scope is covered in dew and fire ash.

I knew dew heaters are generally required but I had no idea it would be this bad without one.

As for the neighbour, a quick word over the fence about texting me if he is having a fire and an explanation of why I only have a fire when the wind is blowing away from us all out over the fields.

Hopefully he got the message.

The optical tube is now drying out in the lounge and I hope the ash hasn't damaged any front glass coatings.

Dew heaters and dew shield are the next purchase then.......
