Yes it’s sorted. It turned out to be the RA motor that didn’t work on speed 1. I wrongly assumed that the Synscan defaulted to speed 1 on power up when in actual fact it defaults to speed 2. I obviously thought the motor was OK but by pressing the rate and 1 button on the handset revealed the defective motor.

I have since bought an EQ6 pro Synscan and although I have had only a short time to test it, it seems to be working fine.

Clear Skies required for a proper test me thinks!!

    Cheers

Is the default speed on EQ6 also 2 or 1?

Had a chance to image at a dark sky site for the first time (Møns Klint in Denmark).

Previous attempts were always ruined by equipment failure or fog. This time everything went to plan, and it was an excellent experience. This was also my first time properly using my standalone autoguider (Synguider 2), after getting the hang of its eccentricities in the backyard. Have to say that once you figure out all the important info that's not in the manual, it's s fantastic piece of kit. Not having a laptop out in the field made things much simpler.

Two main targets for the night. Horsehead nebula and Iris nebula.

    Horsehead

    Iris

    (40 x 3min subs)

(Skywatcher 200P newtonian, EQ5 goto mount, coma corrector, Canon 450D unmodded @ iso 800, Synguider standalone autoguider, processed with DSS and PI)

I was amazed at the difference a dark site made, and of course the guiding - but regretted not getting 6 hours of data on a single object when I had the chance - was tempted instead to go for multiple, resulting in shorter stacks. But overall, very happy with the experience, and I'll be heading to dark sites any time I get the chance.

I have spent a few nights out withthe Synguider and I just cantget it working right. Perhaps someone on here has the answer for me :)

    I have a HEQ5 Pro, 80ED with a Canon 1000D. Stratravel 80 with a Synguider.

The Synguider is focused correctly, lined up so that the hand control moves the star in line with one of the axis, I lock on a star, do Autocal, and as soon as it starts guiding, the star just flies off the bottom of the screen. Time and time again.

I even halved the RA/DEC aggressiveness, as has been suggested in a number of threads, bu to no avail.

HEQ5 is set to 0.5x for guiding.

Has anyone had a fix for this, as I have seen a few others with the same issue.

I gave up in frustration, and just did a pile of 2 min subs on Polar Alignment.

    Help!!!

    Thanks.

Why do you guide 0.5x on Heq5? I also had problem guiding, my stars look like crosses, like ra and dec corrections are too agressive. I tried to reduce these agressiveness on up/down and left/right buttons on controller but no change. Does anyone has some idea how to fix this?
