Lovely! It’s nice that the current owners seem to appreciate its history although I doubt whether they have retained the observatory(s). I was passing through Selsey once and tried to find it, but failed. Later on I found out exactly where it was and made a pilgrimage courtesy of Google maps street view!

Spent many happy hours here with Patrick and other friends.  Happy memories.   Happy days.. Seems a life time ago now 😪

So glad it’s being looked after well and that it has a blue plaque to commemorate him.

Hi all, just wanted to post my first post. Signed up a couple of days ago that was when I was a young whippersnapper of a 59 year old. Moving on to tonight and I’m a 60 year old. Really lean to buy my scope but am not 100% sure what I’m going to go for but am favouring a 150mm Newtonian on a EQ3-2 mount. Want to do planets, moon and a bit of DSO hunting. Hopefully I’m on the right lines. Clear skies all.

Many Happy returns from over the border.
I’ll leave it to those that know better with regard to scope advice. Good luck..
    Clear skies and enjoy!

They are in production again - but the price is incredible - 840 euros from APM, plus import duty…..,

Yet to try mine out, but am sure it will be amazing

Price is through the roof!  No duty, as it’s made in the EU (current Brexit rule between UK, NI & EU (both ways)). However, carriage, insurance and the dreaded VAT @20% pushes the price up even further 😮   If it’s coming into the UK.

I went to the Oregon Coast on Saturday night to try and get Orion and some coastline.

The tide was out, the moon left me about 45mins of shooting, and it was clear.

Here is a 40min stacked 20x2min sots blended with a 3min foreground shot.

I absolutely love this image!  Congratulations….

I better not keep such a record as it would make me want to cry and sell my telescope in a fit, I would rather fool and convince myself that I was out more than I was as my memory is the pits anyway, ignorance really is bliss.

Hahaha. I’ll try the ignorant method too.  What did you say your name was?  🤔

There are certain limits Alan, the link here explains them.

Tax and customs for goods sent from abroad: Tax and duty - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

But I think I am right in saying as long as you say they are sold for less than £39 there will be no duty.

This is the best source of information for matters of import/export.  Please be aware that rules do change, so it’s worth checking every time you buy into the country (Great Britain & NI) from overseas.  You might need to dig deeper into the links to find answers that relate more to the products you choose to buy in cross border.

Currently, if items are “Made in GB/NI or EU” then they are not subject to import/export duty. (Current deal following Brexit).  Check with the supplier/manufacturer if unsure.  If you import into GB & NI and the item is made in the EU, make sure the inbound package clearly states the country of origin to ensure duty isn’t charged by the freight/courier company.  You can always claim it back if you get charged, but it’s only additional hassle.

    Good luck 🤞

WOW, equally as impressive as that stunning dob is the fact that wherever this is, the weather allows for what seem like Persian rugs to be kept outside. I'm not sure if I feel awe at your setting or I just want to cry. 😂

I guess the Persian rugs gave the game away….

The image was taken within the largest uninterrupted sand mass in the World! (As long as it’s not blowing around, all is well)

yeh, you've captured a stereotypical suffolk landscape there. It's amazing more people don't like here tbh. 🤪

    stu

Only a true Suffolk chap, and a Lovejoy fan, can easily see the Lavenham Swan in the background next to the palm tree.    🤣.    Don't tell anyone. 🤫

My first reaction to your post was, "oooh!  an astronomer in the county!"

Crikey - Suffolk has changed a bit since I grew up there...😀

No change what so ever, as the image shows. 🤪  Come on home!

It was great seeing last night for sure and I too used a 4" scope.  I am very much a Moonwatcher  but I really long for dark sky for a few sessions now.

Me too.  I can’t recall such poor observing conditions in this part of the World.  Moon it is for a while yet 😉

A fantastic image and what a beautiful monster! is that your grab and go? or more like heave and drag.

When we lived in the desert, this was very much grab and go most nights.  Now we are back in the UK, and under cloud for what seems like forever, it’s become more of a door stop 😪 .  I’m desperate to attend any dark site star party to give Zeùs the photons he deserves.  The views he delivers are beyond belief.  I think I need to create a footer to my posts with some detail around the making of Zeùs for those interested.
    * Just read that I need a few more posts to add a signature….  I’ll get scribbling. 😁
