No wonder.... It's designed to connect to the mount DIRECTY in place of the handset. Follow my instructions and it should work.
- Download and install the Prolific driver form Skywatchers website
- Plug a USB cable into the Skywatcher adapter, and the other end into the computer. Windows should detect the device and with the driver pre-installed you should have a new COM port showing up in Device Manager. Provided it doesn't have a yellow exclamation mark against it then the driver has been installed correctly.
- Right click on the new COM port and select properties and set the baud rate to 9600 if not already defaulted to that speed.
- Un plug the USB cable from the PC
- Remove the handset form the mount
- Plug the link cable between the adapter and the mount using the RJ45 (the wider plug) is inserted into the same socket where the handset would normally ne plugged in
- With the cable / adapter now connected to the mount, power up the mount.
- Plug the USB plug into the PC.
- If you have EQMOD installed already then navigate to the folder and launch he TOOLBOX application.
- Click the driver set up option and enter the details of location, and select the com port that was created above. Ensure the baud rate is set to 9600
- Once set up close the driver set up and then click on the option to launch EQMOD form within the toolbox. It should connect and display the mount as parked.
- With the slew rate set to 4 click on the NSWE buttons to make the mount move
- Close the toolbox application - your mount is ready to be used with any planetarium application
Thanks for this
im strictly in altaz so EQMOD won't work for me

Thanks for all the help but none of it works
i have the older azeq6 with no usb on the mount
this is what the usb dongle is supposed to do
one end is a rj45 which with a cable provided plugs into tge bottom of the habd controller the other end is a printer connection which u can then use a cable to go into a usb computer
-
I've ordered this eqdir cable but I doubt this will work
i do not use eqdir and i am in altaz
lm presuming i will need to ibstall eqdir and drivers to get this cable to work
anyways let's see when it arrives from firstlight optics

Is this the Wifi dongle ?? - You really need to give us more information and even add some images as requested - we can then advise you if you have the right item to suit your needs. If you are connecting your AZ-EQ6 to a PC then all you need is an EQDIR cable such as this one
-
Guys i have the synscan usb dongle which is sold by skywatcher
not the wifi dongle
its a specific dongle with rj45 on one side and printer cable on the other
-
Check chip on prolific site didn't work it says theres no com port
i'm giving up on it
the usb dongle from skywatcher doesn't work
-
I get a com port number but when attempting connect message box says that com port is in use
Ive tried many different ports
-
Thanks for replying
i should have said that prolific driver is installed for the usb dongle and ascom installed for hand controller

Hi All
i have an azeq6 mount with a just bought usb dongle that plugs into the hand controller and then with a printer cable connects to my laptop

I am working my way up to it.
Before i do this please tell me how i remove the counterweight shaft from the mount body...i need to get this out for a problem i have with the mount for the secondary saddle whose bolt that you tighten down onto the cw shaft has sheared and i need to somehow drill it out...the cw shaft seems to be trapped somehow in the body of the mount
Seems like the cw shaft can only be removed out from the primary scope side of the mount (i'm in alt az mode only with this mount)..and to do this i need to remove the second scope saddle holder from the shaft which i cannot as the one bolt that secures it to the cw shaft has jammed and the top of the bolt has sheared off
Help
