  1. Sorry for the delayed reply I haven’t looked at this for several days. Thanks for the feed back on the AZ Pro would like to see one in the flesh.
The AZ31 is that one of the strain wave mounts which are about lately? I will take a look but I assume I would need to carry power with the mount.

I may be wrong in saying this but I always thought the heavier the mount the more stable it is. So I am struggling with a mount that weighs 3.1 KG holding a 12 kg set up steady. I think the option AZ pro is twice that weight so may be better.

  2. I am looking to purchase a better quality altazimuth mount I have looked at the Rowan AZ 100 which I believe is quite heavy. I’ve also looked at the losmandy AZ8.
As I weigh up the pro’s and cons another mount has come to my attention. The Ioptron AZ mount pro which seems to tick all the boxes. Go to and tracking without the need to carry cables and power supplies.
I have read up a lot on the Rowan AZ 100 but struggling to find any good reviews of the Losmandy AZ8 or the Ioptron AZ mount pro. The main scopes I would be using are the C9.25 and Intes m715 one at a time.

  3. Ok thanks both so nuts and bolts are the way to go. I won’t be in any hurry to take the OTA apart. I will wait till things start to loosen. Arm and a leg if you catch my drift. Are there any shims under the corrector lens or does it just need to go back on the same way it came off?. I have googled the dove tail but not found any horror stories.

  4. I have just taken delivery of a Intes micro m715. I have two questions. Is the factory fitted dove tail up to the job? Seeing as it is riveted to the OTA. Secondly if so is there a dove tail mount plate on the market which will fit it as it is narrower than a standard fitting. I used to over come this on my m615 by using shims. The m715 is a lot heavier OTA so I would like to be sure.

  5. Glad I found this post. I've been looking for what book to get for double star observation. I think I have just about found all the Messier objects that I can from my light polluted garden and restricted views. This will give me something to do this winter as it is not always practical to drive out to dark skies. Do the books mentioned have star charts so that you can find the doubles ?.I have a ipad app that lists all the double stars but no info on how to find them.
