I have a Tal100RS and they are really crisp scopes. Sure there is some CA (as you would expect) on bright objects like Vega but for the price it was a bargain. Jupiter is stunning and at F10 its pretty kind on eyepieces..
As others have mentioned, second had might turn up a bargain as I believe they have stopped making them. The nearest equivalent is probably the Starwave F11 but they are more expensive and don't come with a finder like the TAL.

TAL pitchforks at dawn, now that I would like to see ;-)
Optically they can't be much between the Tal and the starwave I can't imagine it is worth the extra cost. I would like to do the comparison but my Tal isn't going anywhere unless prised from my dead corpse.

I bought my Tal a couple of years ago and then only a hat full of vendors had stock.. It shipped directly from ovl but I suspect the stock was just being wound down.
A great shame! They are such a wonderful enthusiasts scope great to use and very scientific in feel.

Good work on that mount. The scope looks the buisness; those vintage Polarex do look lovely, and for under £93 you got a bargain

Hi Jules,
Good job on the clean, I may need to remeber how you did it at some point in the future..,
AB this was probibly Marki's 125 thread linked. I cant remember who he used, mabye send him a PM?I have no reason to doubt my own scopes optics BUT I recall ading some time back about someone having their TAL 125 hand tuned by some whizz....any idea who that might be and or some source data on establishing the perfection of the set up ?
Good job by the way on cleaning.

Wow, good work that's fantastic

Awesome thank you Steve! Only disadvantage with the fov calculator that I can see is the cost incured from all the ethos' eyepieces I wish I had

Nice work John, I'm really tempted by these. BGO quality in a more comfortable to use package sounds very attractive

An excellent post, just shows that even a humble 4" scope can reveal alot of the wonders up there with a little patience. :-)

Best I could do was project the 'clouds' onto a piece of paper.. Not enough sunlight to view through the eyepiece (and filter of course).
