  1. We are really looking forward to your set up arriving in Castillejar and getting it ready for the SGL community to start enjoying the wonderful dark skies here at Pixelskies.  This is a great project and hope you all enjoy it.  It's a fantastic opportunity to see how new and innovative equipment works and performs and we are looking forward to working alongside FLO and IKI.

The amount of time and effort and dark skies definitely shows in this excellent image.

Well done.  Is this a remote observatory that your rent and operate?

    Carole

    Evening Carole,

I have recently moved from light polluted Birmingham to Rural Spain where we are setting up our second remote telescope hosting site.  I totally agree with you that dark skies certainly make a massive difference to the image quality and the amount of clear nights is also a bonus 😀.

    Cheers Dave

  3. This is IC 5146 Cocoon Nebula taken from ICAstronomy PixelSkies, Spain

IC 5146 is a reflection/emission nebula and Caldwell object in the constellation Cygnus. The NGC description refers to IC 5146 as a cluster of 9.5 mag stars involved in a bright and dark nebula. The cluster is also known as Collinder 470.

Beautiful details and slightly different colouring to normal SHO but I think I prefere it....well done

Cheers Dave just used SCNR to reduce the green and that was it for the colour.

  6. This is M16 captured from ICAstronomy in Oria, Spain. The image was captured using a narrowband Hydrogen-alpha filter (Ha) as the moon was at about 70% this was a test of my new Ha filter.

Also in the image is the famous Pillars of Creation.

Can I have directions to Oria site, can't find them anywhere

I will PM you the directions. When are you thinking about coming over?

I did meet Colin a couple of months ago when he look at a friends very large property, think just before he bought the place at Castillejar............if you are ever around give me a shout and we can meet up.

We are just in the process of updating the website as we speak. There are no more places available left at Oria it's full. Maybe come and have a site visit at Oria?

Hi, yes I do have a dome, the only one in Galera as far as I know. I also know Colin from ICAstronomy, went to his place in the Jalon valley for a Pixinsight course that was being held there. You have a good site at Oria as the air here is dry and transparency is very good.

It's a small world Colin has made the move from Alcalali to Oria we also have a place near Castillejar where we are setting up another Hosting site and going to be running some courses from there.

Fantastic image... smooth and detailed..32 hours!!  just goes to show that the exposure time is necessary for quality astro images.

Yep you Definitely need to put the time in and having good skies help 😉.

Superb image with lots of detail.....and from a good location. I actually live in the village of Galera which is about 20KM from Oria.

Hi Dave Thanks for the comment been to Galera afew times do you have a dome by any chance?  I work at ICastronomy it's Definitely a great location.

  12. M106 was captured from our other site ICAstronomy in Oria. This has got to be my favourite galaxy of them all. The processing was a lot easier than the last time I processed it as this data was taken from a dark site in Spain and not from light polluted UK.

    Some Info about M106:

Messier 106 is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. M106 is at a distance of about 22 to 25 million light-years away from Earth. It is also a Seyfert II galaxy.

  13. M13 The Great Globular Cluster in Hercules was captured from IC Astronomy in Oria.

    Some Info about M13:

M13 is about 145 light-years in diameter, and it is composed of several hundred thousand stars, the brightest of which is a red giant, the variable star V11, with an apparent visual magnitude of 11.95. M13 is about 22,200 light-years away from Earth.
