  1. I used to be a member years ago when it was called the "Junior Astronomical Society". I only recall ever going to a couple of meetings at the London Planetarium. They had a preview of the new projector and seating arrangement, it was ghastly :) We all wanted the Zeiss machine back.

  2. I've been holding off buying a Raspberry 4, now I think it might be worth it. Everywhere is sold out so I'm glad I'm not in a rush. I hope the lead time is a bit better than the original Pi though, ordered that on 29th Feb and didn't get mine till July 😀

The only problem with Pi4 is needing new power supply and HDMI cable which adds to the cost.

  3. I was in:

Hawaii in 1991 - clouded out.

Chile in 1994 - Seen through thin clouds and suffering terribly from altitude sickness. Hand held with a point and shoot film camera. The developer ruined the negative with crap.eclipse.thumb.jpg.f9382e16b24de34fb8c41d048bb17806.jpg

India in 1995 - amazing if short, the eclipse finished with a double diamond ring.

Venezuela in 1998 - perfect view though didn't think we'd be able to see it when we got to the centre line because it was horizon to horizon clouds.

Penzance in 1999 - I wanted to see an eclipse on UK soil but we were under heavy skies. I took a portable TV with me and "observed" with that 😀.

I'm way too ill and poor to travel to any more eclipses so I just enjoy experiencing them via the internet.

  4. Finally to actually see on video what you see visually during a total eclipse.

I would love to have this level of detail for the 1995 Indian eclipse, we had 10 seconds of totally stolen from us but we were regaled with a double diamond ring instead.

Someone made a slight error in the shape of the moon :)

  5. I remember the first time the space shuttle operated on VHF over the UK, it was mayhem.

It was not the proudest moment for amateur radio I'm afraid. From AOS to LOS it was bedlam with people calling willy nilly and someone broadcasting Nellie the Elephant by Mandy Miller trying to block signals from the shuttle.

I did manage to hear W5LFL but didn't try to contact with my QRP setup.

I'm G0DKR by the way but G6XWR when the above happened.

  6. Gina:

The reason that these small computers work in 32bit is because they then qualify for free windows 10.

Add more memory than 2Gb, bigger than 8" screen, if they have a screen, and work 64bit and then they come without an OS and you have to pay for the full version of windows 10. And before you think "I'll use Linux", that can have problems with the installing process.

  7. I joined the group 2 weeks ago and am busy crunching numbers but I'm not too sure if I have a problem.

I seem to have Pending credit: 3,695.75 (some work units of which go back 2 weeks) which seems to me to be rather a lot.

What's the pending credit other group members have?

I also notice 1 work unit for which I claim a number of points has been granted 0 points. What's the reason for this.

If anyone can answer or point me in the right direction to a place to get answers I'd be most grateful.
