The only thing that beats Baader for quality of views/images is a good Herschel wedge ( and the difference between those is marginal ) every other film or glass filter I've used/tested doesn't come close in terms of resolution.

Seymour , Thousand Oaks , and anything still called Mylar film like yours  , is fit for little else but Eclipse Glasses in my humble opinion , based on 12 years of imaging using Baader film ... :happy8:

okay! Thanks so much I'll try to find one for my scope 😄

I'd recommend highly swapping the filter for one that uses Baader Astrosolar film.

why's that? some quick googling tells me the quality of the view is superior, which is definitely convincing enough, but is there another reason you recommend it? thanks!

  3. Couldn't resist the allure of seeing 3664! this is my 3rd time trying to photograph the sun and the first time I managed to get slightly more than a misshapen fried egg, so I'm quite proud! All I have is my samsung s21, a celestron travel scope, and my shaky hand so please be gentle 😄

  4. meant with genuine curiosity as i'm interested in learning more; what is the point of custom color filters? Do you write out the process of making them anywhere?

you do a great job these colors are all so vivid! i really love the calcium, hydrogen, and infrared. the inverted colors render the details exceptionally well

We were blessed with fine weather in Magog, Quebec, for today's total eclipse. Some spectacular prominences and large crowds a'whooping and a'hollerin' at the moment of totality. I looked out for Comet Pons Brooks, but could only see Venus and Jupiter.

I won't be able to process my images properly till I get home next week, but here's a few quick captures.

these are all Beyond gorgeous. so crisp!! i love the animation too

i'm making a 12 hour round trip to go see totality, so excited! figured i'd make a guess at what i'll see so that i feel more confident in my ability to capture the feelings after seeing the real deal.

Here are two nice resources related to solar activity and sunspots:

    http://haso.unex.es/haso/index.php/on-line-archive/

    https://svalgaard.leif.org/

A recent work that I would recommend is C. de Jager, S. Duhau, A.C.T. Nieuwenhuizen, Solar Magnetic Variability and Climate, (Alkmaar, 2020). Kees the Jager was a renowned Dutch solar astronomer and published this work when he was 99 years of age!

Weather permitting I do sunspot observations daily both for a project led by Leif Svalgaard and for SILSO. My data is archived at HASO, hence above two links

Thank you so much for these resources!
