You need to buy your mum a nice Christmas present and work on convincing her to let you clear a space for your telescope. Having a permanent setup is a game changer, it's the best upgrade you will ever do.  Get her a one of those framed pictures showing the constellations visible on her birthday.  That may just just swing it your way - good luck :)

That's an excellent idea! We didn't do anything for Xmas because my stepdad just passed on Friday, but her birthday's in March so maybe I can do something like that then!

  2. I wish I could leave my mount outside in one spot-aligning every single time takes forever. However, with 12 acres of land about 2/3 of it is cedar trees and the only place I can stargaze is in the driveway/parking lot in front of the house. Can't leave my stuff out there unless I want it run over because my nephew pulls in like he's finishing a race. Maybe I can convince my mom to let me clear some more trees out for a decent astronomy field of view.

Welcome to SGL from a fellow Texan way up north of DFW.

I so like your phrase "eyes glaze like a donut" (^8    It does really capture most people when I start talking about astro-imaging and telescope equipment.

I live under Bortle 6 skies but I have my SRO dark site out near Paducah, TX that has Bortle 1-2 skies so I feel lucky to have "my own little dark corner of the universe".

YAY! Another Texan! (Although I'm a transplant from Detroit)

  4. I have the same scope (bought it around the time of this post actually 😊), and have been wondering the same thing. Or at very least if I can get it aligned using my StarSense if I could get it to track so I don't have to constantly move the position manually. Maybe by bumping this post someone will finally be able to answer both of us 😄

  5. Hi everyone! Straight facts are in my bio, but the gist of introducing myself is to say I'm looking forward to talking with other people who enjoy astronomy. I live out in the middle of nowhere (4.5 on the Bortle scale), and don't really have anyone to talk to besides my mom (whose eyes glaze like a donut whenever I start talking about pretty much anything). Thanks for letting me hang out with y'all!
