That's a great option, just ordered a K&F one in 49mm as that'll go straight onto the filter adaptor I already have and probably more durable, plus I could pop it onto one of my camera lenses if I ever feel the need to have a play with that instead 🙂

Just ordered the same filter from K&F. Thanks.

  2. Mostly clouds here with some showers. Got a great view of the Moon earlier as I crossed Lidl car park with the shopping! Out in the garden a few times with a Seestar but only managed a couple of minutes of M45. Total cloud out there now and work in the morning so Orion will have to wait.

I’ve never really thought about AP much as I prefer the simplicity of looking through an eyepiece and sketching what I see, but I’m quite tempted by one of these. My question is, how good a result can I get just using a iPad for processing, and what app do people recommend?

I am using an iPad to control the S50 without any issues so far. I prefer the larger screen compared to that of a smart phone too. Certainly helps me to see the live stack developing. I don't process on the iPad though but it is easy enough to transfer the saved files to a laptop/PC/Mac and process there. I am just beginning imaging and so far I am mainly using Siril which I don't think is available on an iPad. Processing options on the iPad will I think be limited by the compatible software packages available.

  4. First attempt at imaging and processing. Comments and suggestions welcome. Seestar live stack had a satelite trail right across M81 so re-stacked with Siril and this removed it.

    M81 and M82. Seestar S50. 10s x 60 minutes. 9 January 2024.

    Siril. Astro Cooker. GIMP.

My AZ-GTi arrived from FLO in mid-December and it's been cloudy since.  But it does seem to work well in my living room.  🙃

Mine has been outside once since September. Was hoping tonight might be the night but not according to the forecast - dense fog until tomorrow morning.

My astro gear has cabin fever 🤒

I have the Bresser also so I hope so

what’s your thoughts on the Bresser be good to link in with a fellow user as there’s not many of us have them over the smaller SW version

I only got the Bresser 127 in September and with terrible weather and other commitments I think I have had about an hour observing with it. Spent that on Jupiter and Saturn and very impressed. Hoping for a lot more time with it this year.  I have added a Rigel finder which is a massive improvement on the Red dot. I am interested in some of the changes made in this thread -

If it has a weakness I think it is the focuser, so might look to make some of the changes detailed here. Although I would not be anywhere near as confident as @johninderby

Hopefully the S50 arrives tomorrow as expected and I can test. Will be indoor testing only though as the foul weather looks likely to persist here for the rest of the year!

    I will report back.

    Thanks

The iPad works fine with the S50 so far although I haven't got it outdoors yet. Apparently people were using the iPhone app on the iPad to control their devices up until recently. But ZWO issued a firmware update a few weeks ago and now the iPad can be used in full screeen mode in both portrait and landscape. Looking forward to some cloud free nights to test this out fully.

    Thanks

  9. Expecting delivery of S50 from FLO on Tuesday. I use an iPad too and going by the specs on FLO website I am expecting to be able to use the iPad -

'iOs/iPadOs: OS 12 and up, iPhone 6s and later, iPad/iPad mini, iPad A/R, iPad Pro'

    Fingers crossed.

  10. It has been a while since I bought or sold on ebay but does your account accept returns and are the returns at the buyers expense? If so you could call his bluff and tell him to return it. Chances are he won't and the case will be closed. If he leaves you bad feedback you can reply. Someone with more recent ebay experience might know if this is still the case.

You know that feelin when you have waited for days or longer for an evening or two of clear skies for imaging?

Well, imaging those evenings arriving to coincide with such a stinking head cold that the wooly feeling in your head would pose a serious risk to your equipment safety 😠

I feel your pain. Three weeks of a head cold coupled with a dust-mite allergy have left me incapable of going outside any night.
