Hi Folks, after a few months of DIY when time and weather allowed, I have finally finished my roll-off-roof observatory, you can see my process in the write up here on my website: https://astrokriss.com/observatory-build/ I welcome feedback and comments, and advice on what scope I should get to add next. Im after something with a bit more focal length to capture the planets and get a bit closer on some galaxies.

Hi folks, might be a silly question but does anyone use a 1.25” solar filter for imaging the sun in a regular filter wheel? is this safe to do or not, wouldn’t want to damage kit. in past I just used a manual solar filter cap on end of scope. But as scope is now in my obsy, would be good to remotely be able to just switch from solar and DSO as required Will be used with 294mc pro and 80ED refractor. Thanks

Hi Folks, finally got around to joining SGL, and long overdue I think. I'm an amateur astrophotographer based in Wimborne, Dorset. Have been cursing the clouds and bad weather for about 3 years since I got my first proper setup, but with a life long stargazer with interest in space and the stars. Im currently in the process of building my own observatory in my back garden, with no plan or experience but it's gone quite well so far. Will share a blog link once I collate all my progress photos and do a write up.
