Could it be a tiny hair caught somewhere? I once had a black line in the corners of my images, and I found an eyelash or something had got inside and wedged into the corner of the sensor of my DSLR.
What is a DSLR??? Is it a big lens for a camera or is it a lens for a telescope?

Well done Neil on getting 2nd in the terminator challenge and 3rd in the pick a planet 2022. I can barely use a telescope, I wouldn't even know how to setup a camera on it to take photos 🤷♀️

I did some practicing setting up my tripod, using the different lenses and filters today. I was so looking forward to using the telescope tonight but its rained. Typical. 😑

Cool images. I have a question and its probably stupid "Does the sun spin like the planets do or is it stationary?"

Google has told me that the universe is 93 billion lightyears in diameter and I was also taught it was expanding at the speed of light. But I was also taught it was 13.7 billion years old meaning it must be at least around 27 billion light years in diameter so is you universe 93 billion years old or is it 27 billion light years in diameter. What do you guys think?
I think we've been measuring it wrong. If the outer universe we see is 13.7 billion years old, then during that 13.7 billion years if it expands at the speed of light what would it be now? Maybe 93 billion and 13.7 billion are both correct answers.

Hi Chrissy and a warm welcome from me, also in the West Country. Good advice above, get used to the mechanics of the telescope in daylight hours. Clear skies!
I missed an opportunity of clear skies last night. Its a bit cloudy today, I hope it clears up tonight. I just had a go with setting up my telescope as I need it (My neighbour helped). Its ready for viewing this evening. Fingers crossed the skies go clear.
I want to see Jupiter, when will I be able to see that next in the night sky?

Welcome to SGL! 🙂
I'm even closer....on the other side of J13 to you! It was clear last night, if you were prepared to stay up until gone midnight....
Venus was really bright last night but I was in sleepy la la land before midnight last night 🙂

Hi @Chrissyfbpe and welcome to SGL.
Best advice to begin with is to do a few 'dummy-runs' during daylight hours. It will not be so infuriating and intimidating if things end up going pear-shaped... and easier to know where things go, etc.
Thank you Philip I never thought of that. It is hard trying to fit lenses in and trying things out when its dark. I'll do that this weekend I think.

Hi Chrissy and welcome to SGL from Yate, not far from you.
If you have any questions on the Celestron, be sure to ask. There are plenty of opinions on here! 😉😄
I'm in Stonehouse so not far at all, too cloudy tonight though for the telescope.

Hello everyone,
I have inherited a telescope from my neighbour. Its the celestron one in the title. I've always found star gazing fascinating so trying it as a hobby. Any tips or advice welcome. Its cloudy tonight so I can't use it.
Thanks,

How exactly is this level, anyone else have this issue with tripods?

My neighbour used some rubber matting to place the tripod on, that reduced the shakes a lot when zoomed in. I was zoomed in 600x (300x lense + Barlow) to see Jupiter but it was shakey. I forgot to put the mats down, as soon as the tripod was on the rubber mats the shaking nearly stopped.
