Thanks for the reply, and yes personal safety is an overarching concern. Taking the scope by car isn't a major concern, but I'll be taking my child as well.
It's a genuine shame that most places that provide reasonable darkness outside of gardens are not particularly safe.
Hopefully we'll find something.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some guidance for good observation locations in Stoke on Trent area. Our back garden would actually be decent except for a ludicrously bright street light pointing directly at it.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Clear skies.

I'm quickly narrowing down my choices, and also got the skywatcher heritage 150p and the classic 150p, both on Dobsonian mounts. Any thoughts would be more than welcome.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I noticed that the Celestron Knowledge base has not been updated some 10 years later:
https://www.celestron.com/blogs/knowledgebase/does-my-astromaster-130-have-a-spherical-or-parabolic-mirror-what-is-the-difference
It seems incredible that they would not just make it absolutely clear what type of mirror it is.It would be great if an owner of the scope was able to confirm. LIke so many before, I'm trying to decide between this and the Skywatched Explorer 130p. I'm thinking about paying the extra just to be assured of the parabolic mirror.

I'm thinking about using solar film. Might you be able to point me in the direction of a guide for making a filter with film?
