Hi, I’m still learning AP but would like to know what overall difference the diameter of my camera nosepiece makes. I’ve recently bought a ZWO ASI 585MC camera and it’s connected to my Altair 60EDF telescope with M42/M48 spacers, which then connect to the 0.8 reducer. I’d like to add a UV/IR filter, so my dilemma is -
1. do I purchase a filter drawer (and replace a section of the spacer train) - which is going to cost about £80 PLUS a the cost of a 2” filter.
2. do I remove the reducer and go back to a standard focuser setup, but attach a spare 1.25” filter (that I already have) to the supplied 1.25” nosepiece that came with the camera.
I don’t know what difference in quality a 1.25” nosepiece makes, when compared to a M42 to M48 spacer setup. Thanks in advance 🙂

That’s great. Thank you!

Hi. Apologies for the complete newb question - I’ve just ordered an Altair 0.8 reducer for the 60EDF telescope which the specs say requires 55mm spacing. I have a Altair GPCAM3 290c camera which I believe has 12.5mm back focus. Am I correct in thinking I just need 42.5mm worth of spacers to reach focus?
Plus, does the camera just screw into the final spacer and is this a specific diameter? Thanks.
ZWO helical focuser travel

I recently bought the ZWO OAG and also a ZWO Helical Focuser. I tried them out last night, but had trouble adjusting the helical focuser’s outward travel. I removed it from the OAG and it was smooth as silk, movement both in and out to maximum travel.
However when added back onto the OAG the same issue repeats. Basically you can move the travel inward towards the OAG, but it seems to stick on the way out. This causes issues if you over correct, because you have to remove the helical focuser & camera to reset it. Does anyone have the same issue?
