  1. I just ordered a Hotech for $145.00. Read nothing but good reviews on it so hopefully they are all what they seem to be
  2. The part I don't comprehend is this. The Earth and moon work together with their gravitational pull. This asteroid will be closer to Earth than what the moon is so why won't Earths Gravitation pull it in to us? Is it just to small?
  3. Sorry if this was already posted. Planet Might Be Huge Diamond | ThirdAge Planet Might Be Huge Diamond Posted by Caitlin Bronson on August 26, 2011 8:54 AM Astronomers discovered a new planet roughly the size of a small city with the mass of Jupiter. According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the planet’s density is comprised of crystalline carbon, meaning that much of it is likely diamond. The planet was discovered orbiting a small pulsar star about 4,000 light years away from earth, the PI said. Scientists believe it may be the remnants of a star that shed its exterior long ago. Its radio beam, which can be detected on earth, led astronomers to the planet. The distance of the planet from the star is so close, orbit only takes two hours and ten minutes. That would put it and the pulsar it circles inside our own sun, SlashGear reported. Despite its diamond exterior, however, Ben Stappers of the University of Manchester doesn’t believe the planet would be shiny like the diamonds we know on earth. In fact, scientists admit they have no idea what the planet would look like up close. “In terms of what it would look like, I don’t know I could even speculate,” Stappers said. “I don’t imagine that a picture of a very shiny object is what we’re looking at here.”
  4. I would pick other than Saturn and pick the Sun. Saturn as gorgeous as she may be is too motionless for me. The Sun on the other hand lets off Bursts which I could watch for hours upon hours on end
  5. Very nice. Love the color on the second pic
  6. Lol, that's cute. At least you know where it's at. Maybe the young lady wanted to see if she could spot you
  7. Keep the clouds and rain over there We have been getting it almost non stop here in New York and it isn't suppose to stop anytime soon
  8. Hi Milesteg and welcome to SGL. Looking forward to hearing how your skies are
  9. I'm STILL waiting to see Saturn in all it's glory. I have had my scope for over a month now and only had it out 3 times. Still need to get a collimator and work less hours
  10. ^THIS^ I also downloaded a compass on a free app on my Droid.
  11. Nice Job in proving him wrong. and congrats on the new job
  12. This might sound weird but my interest stems from my interest in Dinosaurs and their cease of existence. It was the Asteroid impact that got my interest sparked. That was in my early teens. Astronomy started peeking my interest as to what was/is out there. It wasn't until roughly a month ago that I finally broke down and bought my 1st telescope, one that I still regret buying. Will be getting a 12" Dob after my wife has her surgery done at the end of this month so I hope on getting heavy into it
  13. Nice job bringing it in. I honestly feel like a 46 year old little kid on Christmas morning waiting for my Dob to arrive. If I'm smart I'll have to have an Ambulance on standby. I know the first time I spot it, I'll have a heart attack
  14. ^ This ^ awesome job I'm hoping to be able to see things like this when my 12" Dob comes in
  15. Awesome. I guess my vision is deteriorating lol. Thank you
  16. Welcome to the forum. Now time for a stupid question, what does FLO stand for? Like a dummy I typed it in and got tons of different things. I see a lot of people mentioning it though
  17. Nice to see you here Liz. This is like back in the Baby boomer time. A Lot of us newbies are here. Some very good peeps though
  18. The night before the purchase, Buy her some flowers, a treatment to a Spa. My wife is pretty cool about letting me get my toys. Last summer I told her I wanted to buy a Boat. She was all for it. Then a 4 wheeler to take on my hunting trips, no problem. Then when I told her I wanted a 10" Dob, She went online with me and told me to buy the 12". I didn't complain
  19. Lol, I like Scarlets advice no doubt. Besides, the silent treatment can actually be a mans blessing to his ears
  20. Pretty cool. Only thing I see missing besides the feet support is a Beer holder lol
  21. I remember when I was in the Army. We were on a 45 day training excersize when I got a bad tooth ache. It got so bad I pulled it with some needlenose plyers. Dumb mistake, it ended up getting infected.
