  1. It is a slow starter.. i remember the first time i watched it i turned it off shortly after the crash scene thinking what the hell is going on this is weird, thought he was hallucinating etc, boring..!!! about 6 months later a mate was talking about it in work and i mentioned the above and he was like "oh my god you must re-watch it to the end" and lent me the dvd, so I did and it was well worth it....
  2. My kids are ill and got me up at the crack of dawn this wknd, and as I entered the kitchen with the lights off I was greeted through our huge french doors by a pitch black sky about to hit sunrise, with a lovely crescent moon and Venus just above it... so popped out and grabbed a quick pic with my mobile and think it came out quite ok for a quick mobile pic and thought would share it....
  3. well its still perfect with all the manuals, bags, in the original box etc... i always keep all that in the attic for anything i buy for resale...
  4. it did have an extra skywatcher 2x barlow and a 4mm EP which I had bought since i had it, but I was still well pleased... I almost put a buy it now of £80 on....
  5. I didnt realise scopes held their value so well, or have I just been lucky??? Last Jan I bought my first scope a Heritage 130p, for £135 plus p&p from FLO. Decided to sell it on last week and maybe use what I got back to fund an upgrade, was expecting maybe £70-80, so stuck it on the bay, and it ended today gone for £120... Sorted!! :)
  6. Another lovely calm night, totally clear here, reasonable seeing and not too cold to have to wrap up warm, I can already see jupiter peeking brightly over the rooftops, so took the scope out to cool and suddenly smelt burning wood, looked over to the left and about 2 gardens down someone is just starting a huge fire... lovely...!!! and then within minutes I could hardly see ten foot nevermind across the galaxy.... not to mention to smell.. damn neighbours always spoiling things if its not LP with security lights etc then its stuff like this!!!
  7. I had ok seeing tonight... only my local LP let me down as usual and as Jup is so low in the sky it was sat right along the edge of the LP zone... could not see GRS with my scope but could see two clear bands though @65x but any higher mag lost the focus and hence the bands with it... it was so clear I even managed to grab these using my mobile held against the EP...
  8. first ever views of jupiter an saturn rank up there with losing ya virginity.. lol!
  9. so neutrinos can make the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs too???
  10. yeah i bought a maplin brand pc psu last year and it died after about 6mths...
  11. maplins do some real good offers sometimes on all sorts, but some are store dependant as there are 3 in cardiff and sometimes only see an offer in one, and they dont seem to advertise em much either, you gotta be passing a store and see a poster in the window to catch em most of the time...
  12. If anyone is interested, I just popped into Aldi while I was passing for some milk and in the centre isle things where they have all the non-food stuff I noticed a small metal carrycase, its down as a DVD/CD case but looks a good size for keeping some related bits and bobs in, EPs etc, if you source some foam for it... £9.99.. ALDI LINK
  13. was watching a prog only 2 or 3 nights ago on one of the discovery channels about the AN225... its mental how that thing even gets off the ground on its own, nevermind with some of the massive cargo it can take inside as well like trains and tanks etc...
  14. taken mine in a few trips in the boot in the original box and always been fine....
  15. Cut it to size??? Andy, 300x450 wont be big enough mate... the scope is about 580mm circum and allowing for an overlap for affixing I rounded it to 600mm... so mine is 300x600x3mm i got my foam from here , worked out £4.80 with free p&P for a sheet 600x300x3mm, obviously more than andy just quoted but its a larger and thicker sheet and may be better quality or higher density foam with better light absorbtion properties?? But magnetic tape sounds easier to use than velcro so I may get some of that and remove the velcro...
  16. cloud rolled in badly so gave up just after posting above.. popped to the loo about 11 and thru the frosted glass window I happened to see a crystal sky again and what I thought was jupiter staring down at me due to the magnitude.. went out the back and it sure was, so dragged everything back out again... the 25&10 gave great views as usual, could clearly see 3 (maybe 4) moons with both... barlowed the 10 and also gave the 3.5 a try but was unable to bring into any focus, just a bright blurry disc. would need better seeing for 150+ i think..... best view was prob with the 10.... looked great last night... bring on the cool, crisp, clear autumn and winter nights I say...
  17. re the higher mags.... nice and clear tonight but a mega bright full moon so its more or less the only thing I can look at for now as my back faces SE... so gave my new EP a try.. started with the 25, then barlowed it, still nice, then onto the 10, then barlowed that, still good but very bright, then tried the new 3.5 I bought (which is about 185x on the flextube...) at 185 due to the full moon brightness there was no contrast across the surface to view easily, so I could only view along the outer edges really using the sky behind as contrast, but doing that did give great views of some craters running along the outer edges... looking forward now to a darker night with better seeing and less moonage, and trying it on Jupiter at 185x..
  18. glad its not just me then!!! At least a full moon is not hard to hit.. was a bit bright and left me blind for a few seconds once i took my eye away from the EP but got some nice views of it tonight at low mag...
  19. Anyone else keep forgetting to switch off the red dot?? Just pulled the scope out to get outside and have a scan of the moon, and found my red dot finder was left on again and battery flat again... I left it on the first night I ever used it, and following day I bought a pack of 16x batteries, and went thru all of those, and now several packs of batteries later, I only have 2 left again... I think every single time I get the scope out I forget to turn it off..... Anyone else get this or is it just me????
  20. been on the pc a while, just happened to spin around and am being watched thru the french doors by the biggest brightest full moon just popping over the houses behind... sky looks clear as, its so bright and windy its prob all i will see of any worth tonight, but it'll do for me!!!
  21. I am mildly optimistic of getting out tonight too.. mind you i have lost count of the evenings recently I have thought that around this time and by nightfall, no chance!!!
  22. best thing we found so far for keeping em off our veggies is coffee grounds... just sprinkle some around the ground.. they hate em!!!
  23. Have you tried making one out of the 3mm foam?? The difference between micro-mms thick for card and 3mm for foam must be many hundred percent, and i see no noticable gaps when my foam shield is in place, there may be one but it is so tiny enough as not to see it and the foam fills the gap much better than card would.... I did try 5mm foam but it doeant curve around the circumference properly, and more folds than bends...
