Thought it was a photo blip at first but checked Stellarium for 30th December 2014 10pm Chester, UK and moons do look like this. Still think its a fluke , can anyone confirm this is real??? Amazing if it is as Jupiter is 368 million miles away from earth at its closest approach! Can't believe I've got a photo of Europa, and Ganymede .

That's the real deal.

 

Isn't it amazing that a camera can capture the light reflecting off a gas cloud and then off of a rock that far away?!

Hi, yes I'm still amazed that I just managed to get this shot , must have be in the right place at the right time!!

 

Thanks for reply , this has re-ignited my interest in astro after a few years .
