Celestron Skyris 618c compatability with Celestron Edge 800HD AND 0.7 Focal reducer

Recommended Posts

Celestron Skyris 618c is a planetary camera with a small sensor. Technically its compatible, but if you plan to do some DS imaging with it it will have very small field of view (and you need guiding anyway). If you want to do some planetary imaging - then without the focal reducer, but rather with a 2x Barlow.

I have a Celestron Edge 800HD scope on a CGEM mount, Latest Celestron OAG and 0.7 Focal reducer, does anyone know if the Celestron Skyris 618c is compatible, if not what CCD is compatible from users experience.

Many thanks

Geoff

What are you trying to achieve?

I 'm trying to achieve fine planet and moon detail images.

The Celestron 618 has a decent sensor. Great for planetary, but quite small for Lunar. As Riklaunium has said, ditch the .7 reducer...you need a longer focal length, not shorter. It's a well established sensor, but it has been overtaken by others. A lot of planetary imagers are now using the ZWO cameras, which are a fair bit cheaper (those celestron cameras are over-priced IMHO).

Lots of good information here:
