noob with a skyhawk 1145p

hello i am so new to stargazing i have just brought myself a skyhawk 1145p az goto telescope i have set it up and got it all working but can i for the hell of me see any thing i have tryed to sort out my lens out and focus in on any thing that i can and all i get is a blur i did mange once to see a star but it was just like looking up at the sky when i brought it .iT did stay its so easy a noob can use it well here i am with no luck some one told me to try on a morning when the moon is still out and yes i have taken the lens caps off if there is a easy way of looking at stars please tell me thank you
