X-ray Detectors

Recommended Posts

What kind of X-ray detectors are currently used on an X-ray satellite? I thought that telescopes comprised of two detectors: a PSD (position-sensitive proportional detector) and a CMA (24-channel multiplier array). However I have recently read that the detectors used are in fact: a CCD detector, microchannel plate detector and an ionization chamber.

Are any of these three detectors the same as a PSD detector or a CMA detector or are they entirely different? If they are in fact separate types of detector, have the former PSD and CMA detectors been phased out - or do they continue to be used?

Thank you
