Celestron Scopes - Hibernating...

Recommended Posts

To me... hibernation is something that animals do for the winter... snuggle up warm somewhere and go into a deep sleep waking up in the spring ready for well you know..."action" :)

Since the scope is now livign on the pier in the obs I decide to try and make use of this wonderful labour saving facility... and I must say I have been a tad dissapointed by it...

So a quick "google" initially got me to this from the Celestron Support FAQ

I hibernated my GOTO mount. When I powered back up and woke up the scope, it did not point as accurately as before. What gives?

Looks like its should be described as a snooze function more than a hibernation ... ok for a quick nap and thats about it....

Hi Peter, I believe you have to keep the mount powered, I looked into it for my nexstar, only way for hibernation to work properly would be to either leave it connected to the mains or put some batteries in, so when the session was over and the obs. mains power is switched off the batteries would kick in and keep the hibernation settings active.
