6x30 binoculars - any use at all?

Recommended Posts

I've just found out my father acquired some Swarovski 6x30 bins during WW2 (standard German issue it seems, so unremarkable and not worth a lot... still quite exciting though). I haven't got my hands on them yet, so have no idea of their condition, but can 6x30 be used to pick out anything in the sky, or are they just too underpowered? I believe 8x40 ish bare minimum for astronomy.

They are from a quality maker and will give nice wide field views so why not give it a go, I'm sure they'll give you some lovely views sweeping through the milky way etc.

I have some Zeiss 8x30's and honestly sometimes I prefer taking the binos out rather than a scope, especially if time is limited

Some nice info on using binos here - https://binocularsky.com/
